What is the Teen & Adult Summer Reading Program?
Teens and Adults can read books and win prizes, including a t-shirt for reading and reviewing a minimum of three books.

Also watch for fun Teen and Adult events throughout the summer!

Who can participate?
Teen and Adult Provo City library cardholders, ages 12 and older. Teens may not enroll simultaneously in both the Teen and Children’s Summer Reading Programs.

What can I read?
Any book that’s at least 100 pages long. Or you can listen to the complete (unabridged) audio version of the book.

How do I sign up?
On May 31, 2008, from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm go to the Ballroom or the 1st Floor Reference Desk to register for the Summer Reading Program. Fill out the registration card and receive your packet of materials, including our complete participation rules. Registration for the Summer Reading Program will continue at the 1st Floor Reference Desk through June 30th at 9:00 pm.

Then what do I do?
Read. When you’ve finished a book (between May 31 and July 31), tell us about the book on the review form we provide for you. You may also submit your review online to be posted on the Provo City Library Summer Reading Blog. Be sure to write at least two sentences telling us about the book and why you would or would not recommend it. Once you have submitted your book review, we will check it for completeness, then enter you into the weekly drawing.

Is there anything special for the Teens this summer?
In addition to all the great Teen events this summer, teens registered for the Summer Reading Program can get a treat by posting a comment on the Teen Reads blog.   It’s EASY!  Read the new blog post each week, leave a comment, print it out, and take it to the Reference Desk for a treat.

When are the prize drawings?
Teens and Adults will be entered into separate drawings which are scheduled for 3:00 pm every Saturday at the First Floor Reference Desk except for the final weekly drawing (July 28-31) which will be held at the Grand Prize Party on Monday, August 4, 2008. You do not need to be present at the weekly drawings to win, although you’re welcome to come if you’d like. Library staff will call (or e-mail) to notify the winners. To be eligible to win prizes, participants must have a Provo City Library card in good standing. After each weekly drawing, all of the entries for that week will be destroyed. They are not used again for any other drawing.

To qualify for an entry form for the Grand Prize Drawing you must read 3 books and submit the 3 review forms by 9:00 pm on Thursday, July 31st. Each summer reading participant will only get one entry for the Grand Prize Drawing. Although each review form you turn in will still give you another chance to win weekly prizes.

The Teen and Adult Grand Prize drawings will be held on Monday, August 4, at 7:00 pm.  We will be awarding some special prizes just for those attending the program, but you do not need to be present to win any of the Grand Prizes.

What are the prizes?
Many local businesses have provided coupons, gift certificates, and merchandise for our prizes along with DVD and book prizes purchased by the Library. At our weekly drawings we will be giving away prizes such as gift certificates from Pier 49 Pizza, Laser Assault, Pita Pit, and others. We also have gift baskets, books, DVDs, and more. SirsiDynix, the company that provides our catalog software donated $250 to help fund the program! Please read through the complete list of our sponsors and help us thank them by using these businesses.

How do I get a t-shirt?
Turn in reviews for 3 books you’ve read for Summer Reading by July 31st. We keep track for you on the back of your registration card.

This year’s t-shirt will be dark green, with our 2008 logo printed in red and white on the chest pocket space. On the t-shirt back we will list the businesses who donated $100 or more to support our program.
