Information for parents about children’s public access computers.
The safe surfing page is intended to help you teach your child about safe Internet use. Please talk to your child about the importance of not sharing personal information online and other Internet safety rules.
The Provo City Library provides access to computers with Internet access exclusively for the use of children (12 and under) or children with parents or guardians in the children’s area of the library.
The Provo City Library has filtering software on all public access computers to limit access to certain sites, in an effort to make Internet content accessed at the Library match as closely as possible the types of materials selected for the Library’s collection. This software restricts access by all patrons, including children, to Internet sites that contain obscene material, in compliance with Utah Code Section 9-7-215 and Utah Administrative Rule R223-2.
The Provo City library can not accept responsibility for the use of the Internet by children and young people. No filtering program is perfect. The Library cannot guarantee that its filtering software will be totally effective. Responsibility for the use of all library materials, including Internet resources, rests with the child’s parents or legal guardians. Parents are encouraged to work closely with and supervise their children to ensure that children’s use of Internet resources is consistent with their family’s values.
